Good Morning, Joplin. Do you know why April 20 is linked to marijuana? It all started in the '70s with a group of California teens who met at 4:20 PM after school everyday to hunt for a hidden weed patch—"420" stuck, and the rest is hazy history.
In today’s JOMO Jive:

THE DIGEST
🛫 Heads Up, Missouri Travelers: You’ll Need a REAL ID by May 7
If you’re planning to fly out of Joplin Regional Airport or any commercial airport after May 7, 2025, you’ll need more than just your old driver’s license. The REAL ID deadline is finally here, and the TSA will begin enforcing new identification requirements at airport security checkpoints.
📌 What this means for Missourians:
✈️ Starting May 7, you’ll need a REAL ID-compliant license or a valid U.S. passport to board domestic flights
🪪 REAL IDs are issued by the Missouri Department of Revenue and marked with a gold star
📝 To get one, you'll need to bring proof of identity, Social Security number, and two proofs of Missouri residency
If you're still carrying a standard Missouri license without the gold star, it won’t get you past TSA after the deadline.
For Joplin-area residents, this could mean serious delays or denied boarding if you're caught unprepared. So whether you’re flying for business, vacation, or visiting family—now’s the time to check your wallet and plan ahead.

Carthage High School Band Hosts Mattress Fundraiser 🛏️
The Carthage High School Band is hosting a unique fundraiser. On Sunday, April 27, the band will turn this high school into a one-day-only mattress showroom, offering name-brand beds at discounted prices to raise money for the music program.
Here’s what to expect:
💤 Brand-new mattresses—BeautyRest, Purple, Helix, and more
💸 Adjustable bases, pillows, and protectors
🎺 Proceeds help fund uniforms, travel, and equipment for CHS Band students
Whether you need a twin for a dorm or a king to reclaim your sleep space, every purchase supports the future of Carthage’s talented musicians. It’s the only fundraiser where you can support the arts and improve your REM cycle at the same time.
📍 Stop by Carthage High School on April 27th and shop for a cause. Your back—and the band—will thank you.
New Blessings Boxes in Carthage 🥫
Thanks to a local ministry and a little elbow grease, Carthage now has two new Blessing Boxes—small, free-standing pantries offering food and clothing to anyone in need, 24/7.
Built by Larry Hartman, the boxes are located at Grace Episcopal and Carthage Crosslines Ministry, placed intentionally where they’ll make the most impact. Whether it's a can of soup, a pair of socks, or something to get through the weekend, these boxes are stocked with essentials and open when other services may not be. More boxes are planned for additional locations around Carthage in the near future.

Civic Updates
Liberty Utility Seeking Change to it’s Fuel Adjustment Clause ⚡️
Liberty Utilities has submitted a request to the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) to revise its Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC).
🔌 If approved, the new FAC would add $2.24/month to the average residential bill based on 1,000 kilowatt hours of usage.
Important: This is separate from the base rate increase
This FAC request is entirely separate from Liberty's pending electric base rate increase, which proposes to raise rates by more than 29%. That base rate request is still under review.
Public Comments Are Open
The Missouri PSC is currently accepting public feedback on Liberty’s FAC request. Customers are encouraged to submit comments before a final decision is made. The Commission will consider all public comments, along with Liberty’s testimony and evidence, before issuing a final decision.
