Good Morning, Joplin. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree was installed last Saturday, so you have our permission to put yours up now. It won’t be lit until December 3, though, so if you’re a purist, that’s a safer date for your tree.
In today’s JOMO Jive:
Joplin Christmas Parade Theme Announced
Residential Leaf Pick-Up
Cold Weather Rule
Let’s get to it.

P.S. If you find something useful in today’s Jive, please share it with someone who is watching high school district championship football tonight.

Considering refinancing? Here’s why you should shop around.
If you’re considering refinancing your mortgage, don’t think you can’t shop around. While it could be easier to refinance with your current mortgage company, there are other factors you should consider. For example, some lenders transfer or sell loans after closing, essentially handing you off to a different company. At Arvest, we service more than 95% of our loans, which means borrowers can expect consistency in terms of customer service and loan management from closing through the life of the loan. 🍂 Residential Leaf Pick-Up Begins December 1
Joplin’s annual Residential Leaf Pick-Up Program begins Monday, December 1, giving residents a convenient way to clear their yards before winter sets in. Two City crews will start in opposite ends of Joplin—Street crews in the Silver Creek, Highlands, and Woodland Hills (S1) areas and Park crews south of 32nd Street and west of Main (P1)—working toward the center over several weeks.
Residents should rake leaves to the curb (not into the street) and avoid including limbs, brush, or rocks. To track progress or find your pickup area, visit joplinmo.org/leafpickup. For early disposal, residents can take leaves to the Joplin Compost Facility at 3457 Eddy Lane. Burn permits are also available at City Hall or Fire Station #1.

❄ Cold Weather Rule Now in Effect for Kansas and Missouri
As winter temperatures begin to drop, both Kansas and Missouri have enacted their Cold Weather Rule, protecting residents from utility disconnections when local temperatures are forecast to fall below 35°F within 48 hours.
The rule also requires utility companies to offer 12-month payment plans to help customers maintain or restore service. In Kansas, the policy applies to utilities regulated by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), while in Missouri, the Public Service Commission (PSC) enforces similar protections.
Officials urge residents to contact their utility providers early if they anticipate difficulty paying bills — as the rule remains in effect through March 31, 2026.
