Looking for more than just a haircut? At V’s Barbershop, it’s not just about trimming hair—it’s about tradition. Owner Lori Goins, a master barber, has created a space where getting a cut feels like stepping back into the good ol’ days. From classic barber chairs to hot lather and straight-edge razor shaves, V’s delivers and authentic, old-school experience right here in Joplin.
So what really sets V’s apart? The people. Lori isn’t just cutting hair—she’s building relationships. She’s watched patrons grow up, get married, and even bring in their own little ones for their first cuts. It’s a barbershop family, and once you’re in, you’re in for life.
Ready for a fresh cut with a side of nostalgia? Visit V’s Barbershop and experience the tradition for yourself.

THE DIGEST
Influx of Dogs at Shelters
As the cold sets in, local animal shelters are experiencing an influx of furry friends seeking warmth. On a normal day, the Joplin Humane Society may see 3-4 large dogs come in per day. When it’s this cold, they can get up to 10. While they do everything they can to make room in their already-full shelter, they strongly encourage local residents to consider adoption. Check out their website and learn about adoption.
Here are some things you can do to help protect your own pets during the extreme cold:
Make sure pets have the right foot protection. We found these dog shoes have the highest rating on Amazon (affiliate link).
Keep your pets inside as much as possible. Keep potty breaks less than 15-20 minutes.
Bundle up and wipe down. Exposed skin on noses, ears and paw pads are at risk for frostbite and hypothermia.
Joplin Empire Marked: Paris Week

Great News for Joplin Commuters: Roads Reopening
St. Louis Avenue near 9th Street has officially opened after stormwater work. Now work is progressing East, closing south Connecticut Ave from east Campbell Parkway to east 8th Street. Joplin says detours will direct drivers to St. Louis Avenue.
The new roundabout at Zora and Dusquesne has been unveiled to improve traffic flow. If you travel this route often, you know this was desperately needed. Large trucks can access the Enterprise Business Park easier, and you won’t have to wait a full 3 minutes to get through the intersection because of the stop signs.
