Super Bowl LIX 🏈
Most of us are hurting after last night’s Super Bowl. In what was undoubtedly the Chiefs worst performance of the season, they lost 22-40 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The dreams of a historic three-peat were dashed as the Eagles dominated the game. Patrick Mahomes faced relentless pressure, resulting in six sacks and two interceptions. Despite a late rally, the deficit was too great to overcome. If you missed the game, check out the highlights here.
Super Bowl Monday 🤮
If you’re planning to call in “sick” today, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans have the same game plan the morning after the Super Bowl. This year, a record-breaking 18.8 million people are expected to skip work, with 12.9 million using pre-approved PTO and another 4.8 million swapping shifts like it’s the trade deadline. Millions will roll into work late today, probably wearing sunglasses and clutching an extra-large coffee. With 43% of Americans now believing Super Bowl Monday should be a national holiday, maybe it’s time we make it official.
Winter Hasn’t Left Yet ❄️
If you thought Winter was over, think again. Joplin’s weather still has a few surprises up its sleeve. And if you’re getting your information from Punxsutawney Phil, you might reconsider—he’s only been right 35% of the time over the last 20 years. Just be safe and keep your coats handy, because Mother Nature might have a few more cold snaps left before Spring takes over.
Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt 🔦
Who says Easter egg hunts are just for daytime? Grab a flashlight, some glow gear, and get ready for a nighttime adventure at Joplin Parks & Rec’s Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt! Kids ages 3-10 can enjoy bounce houses, prize bags, and plenty of glowing fun for just $5 per child. The stadium lights go dark at 7:30 on April 11th, and the hunt is on. Think of it as the ultimate game of hide-and-seek, but with candy.
You’re probably wondering, “But April is still months away…why do we need to know about this so early?” Here’s why—space is limited to the first 70 kids in each age group, so please don’t wait until April or you might just miss the deadline. Register here!
Daddy Daughter Dance 💃
Time to dust off your best dance moves, dads—Joplin Parks & Rec is hosting its 24th Annual Daddy Daughter Date Night! Treat your little princess to an evening of music, dancing, games and a buffet dinner (yes, there will be dessert). Plus, a professional photographer will be on hand to capture those sweet father-daughter moments. This event takes place on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st at the Joplin History & Mineral Museum at 504 S Shifferdecker Ave, Joplin, MO 64801. Register here!
