JOANN Fabrics Bids Farewell to Joplin 🎨

In a surprising twist, JOANN Fabrics has announced the closure of not just 500 stores, but ALL of its remaining stores, including our beloved Joplin location. This decision leaves local crafters pondering where to source their materials. Perhaps it’s time to dust off those old sewing machines and start a Joplin quilting co-op! The company cites shifting market trends as the reason behind this move.

With JOANN closing, where will you buy your crafting supplies?

Duquesne Fire Department Proposes Tax Increase 🚒

The Duquesne Fire Department is seeking a tax increase to address firefighter wage disparities. Fire Chief Gerald Ezell highlighted that starting firefighters earn $32,000 annually, significantly lower than neighboring departments. “We are losing trained personnel to other cities offering better pay,” Ezell stated. The proposed tax aims to raise starting salaries to a competitive level, ensuring the retention of skilled firefighters and maintaining public safety standards.
