THE DIGEST
Ladies and gentlepups, it’s time for…
The rules are simple.
This is a multi-round vote to crown Joplin’s cutest pooch. There are 6 voting rounds. Half the contestants will be eliminated each round.
Last pup standing earns a custom pet portrait from West & Willow (a $125 value) and a $50 VISA gift card.
This contest is FREE to enter! There are only 64 spots available, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!
First Thursday ArtWalk 🎨
See fine art and art at is finest during First Thursday ArtWalk! A sophisticated, yet festive event, First Thursday ArtWalk is for area artists as well as patrons of the arts. Dozens of artists will be showing or demonstrating their artistic process and all art will be for sale.
Participating arts will be located inside various venues along with live, acoustic music from local musicians. Patrons are encouraged to “walk the art” through historic Downtown Joplin. This event is held on the first Thursday of the month, March through October.

Annual Statewide Tornado Drill 🌪️
Today, all Missouri residents can expect a tornado drill at 11:00 AM. While this is just a drill as part of Missouri’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week, residents are encouraged to treat it like a real emergency.
Preparing for a tornado:
Know your area’s tornado risk. In the U.S., the Midwest and Southeast have a greater risk for tornadoes.
Know the signs of a tornado, including a rotating, funnel-shaped cloud, an approaching cloud of debris, or a loud roar like a freight train.
Sign up for your community’s warning system. The Emergency Alert System (EAS) and NOAA Weather Radio also provide emergency alerts. If your community has sirens, then become familiar with the warning tone.
Pay attention to weather reports. Meteorologists (looking at you, Doug Heady) can predict when conditions might be right for a tornado.
Identify and practice going to a safe shelter such as a safe room built using FEMA criteria or a storm shelter built to ICC 500 standards. The next best protection is a small, interior, windowless room or basement on the lowest level of a sturdy building.
Plan for your pet. They are an important member of your family, so they need to be included in your family’s emergency plan.
Prepare for long-term stay at home or sheltering in place by gathering emergency supplies, cleaning supplies, non-perishable foods, water, medical supplies and medication.
Struggling to Meet New Friends in Joplin? 🤝
We hear a lot of people say “Joplin sucks.” But is that really true? Isn’t it likely the people who think that might just need to meet some new friends? We think so. If you’re someone who is interested in a casual meet up (and you love good food), then plan on being at Rivers Bend Family Resort tomorrow at 6:00 PM.
Jon Koucky is hosting the Joplin March Meet and Greet after February’s event turned out so great. If you’re on the fence about going, just know you’d be missing out on a 150’ patio overlooking Shoal Creek, karaoke, and a hand-dipped Monte Cristo.
Remember, if you have pictures or a story/event you think we should cover, tag us @jomojivemedia or reply to this email so we can share our favorites!
Theatre Talk
MSSU’s Department of Performing Arts, Division of Theatre is proud to present their production of The Importance of Being Earnest! A witty comedy of manners where mistaken identities and clever deceptions lead to love, laughter and the importance of being truly Earnest.
Doolin’ is France’s premiere Celtic band whose name derives from the little village of musical fame in south-west Ireland. Born in 2005 from an encounter between six accomplished musicians, from its inception Doolin’ perfected a mixture of novel musical genres. Inspired by the purest tradition, Doolin’ combines instrumentals, vocals and original compositions in a resolutely modern style. Buy tickets here.
