Good Morning, Joplin. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. And sometimes you end up having to eat your words when you say the wrong thing. That’s what I’m doing after I said “Why on Earth does no coffee shop in Joplin offer a coffee flight?” in last Friday’s intro. As it turns out, Bloom JGH has been offering coffee flights and matcha flights since December (double burn). And, as promised, they’ll get a free story in an upcoming edition of JOMO Jive! Be on the lookout!

In today’s JOMO Jive:

  • Boys & Girls Club Trivia Night

  • Joplin Miracle League

  • Grove Home, Garden & Travel Show

Let’s get to it.

⚾ Volunteers Needed for Miracle League Season

The Miracle League of Joplin is gearing up for its upcoming season and is now looking for volunteers to serve as “buddies” for players. The six-week season kicks off April 11 at Will Norton Miracle Field, giving children and adults with developmental disabilities the chance to play baseball in a fun, supportive environment. Buddies help players with fielding, running the bases, and overall encouragement during games, allowing families to relax and enjoy the experience. Individuals and groups are both welcome to sign up and make a meaningful impact this spring. Learn more or sign up here.

🏡 Grove Home, Garden & Travel Show Returns for 28th Year

Feb. 20–21 | Wolf Creek Expo Center (1601 Sunrise Blvd., Grove, OK)

If you missed the Joplin Home Show—or just want more ideas—the 28th Annual Grove Home, Garden & Travel Show is back this weekend, bringing more than 100 vendors to the Wolf Creek Expo Center. Hosted by the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, the event highlights home improvement, landscaping, outdoor living, travel, recreation, and local attractions, with experts available to talk trends and upcoming projects. Attendees can also enjoy hourly door prizes and raffle opportunities throughout the weekend. The show runs Friday from 1:00–8:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM–7:00 PM, with $5 admission (kids 16 and under free with a parent).

🎒 Chamber Gives Back: Volunteer with Bright Futures Joplin

Tuesday, February 18 | 8:30 AM-10:00 AM | Nutrition Services Warehouse (1420 Broadway Street)

Chamber members are invited to roll up their sleeves for the next Chamber Gives Back project, supporting Bright Futures Joplin by packing weekend snack bags for local students in need. The volunteer session typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the number of helpers and bags to be packed, and offers a simple, hands-on way to make a direct impact in the community.

🌳 Free Tree Limb Drop-Off Set for Feb. 20–21

Friday & Saturday, February 20–21 | 8:30 AM–3:00 PM | 1702 N. Schifferdecker Ave.

The City of Joplin is opening its monthly Tree Limb Drop-Off Site for residents looking to clear winter brush and fallen limbs. The free service is available Friday and Saturday, February 20–21, and is open to Joplin residents only with no load limits on limbs. However, items like leaves, grass clippings, treated wood, railroad ties, and construction debris will not be accepted, and the site is not intended for contractors or commercial tree services. The drop-off program runs the third weekend of each month year-round, offering a convenient way for residents to dispose of yard debris after seasonal cleanup.

For more information about the drop-off program, call the Recycling Center at 417-624-0820 ext. 1501. To learn more about the bulky item curbside pickup, call Republic Services at 800-431-1507.

🏛️ City Council to Hold Key Vote on Wildwood Ranch Data Center Proposal

Tuesday | 6:00 PM | Corley Auditorium, Missouri Southern State University

The Joplin City Council is set to take up the second and third readings of the annexation and rezoning proposal tied to a potential data center at Wildwood Ranch during its relocated meeting at Missouri Southern State University’s Corley Auditorium. The proposal involves roughly 540 acres near Central City Road West and West 20th Street and follows an earlier council vote that advanced the project after a lengthy public meeting. City officials moved the meeting to a larger venue due to expected high attendance, as community interest and concerns about the development remain strong. Even if the proposal moves forward, city planning staff have indicated that an environmental study would still be required before any construction could begin.
