Good Morning, Joplin. We’re happy to announce we are bringing back the Live Music Lowdown section! We originally put it on pause because almost all outdoor venues are now “out of season”, but the feedback we received was that you still wanted to know about the rest of the live entertainment! So, while the list may be shorter, it will exist. Be on the lookout—this gets posted every Friday!
Also, last Friday we sent a bad link for the Joplin Residential Leaf Pick-Up Program. The correct link can be found here: https://www.joplinmo.org/leafpickup
In today’s JOMO Jive:
Friends of Joplin Memorial Hall
Fall Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic
Santa Photo Sessions at Northpark Mall
PhotoSpiva 2026
Let’s get to it.

P.S. If you find something useful in today’s Jive, please share it with someone who always uses coupons.

🏛️ Proposal Presented to Save & Restore Joplin’s Historic Memorial Hall
A coalition of local organizations—Friends of Joplin Memorial Hall—has presented a new plan to rehabilitate the century-old venue rather than demolish it. The proposal outlines structural repairs, updated systems and finishes, new seating, modern theatrical upgrades, and dedicated space for Post 13 American Legion, with all veterans’ memorials preserved. Crossland Construction estimates the full renovation at $16.7 million, significantly less than previous projections. Funding would come from historic and new market tax credits, community fundraising, and a proposed 2% hotel-motel tax increase expected to contribute $7 million and later support other tourism-related projects.
If approved, the restored facility would be operated by a newly formed nonprofit, bringing together groups like Connect2Culture, Downtown Joplin Alliance, Spiva Center for the Arts, and others to oversee programming, rentals, and long-term stewardship. The Joplin City Council voted unanimously to advance the proposal to a Memorandum of Understanding for further development.

🚧 South Indiana Avenue Closed Due to Sewer Project Instability
Drivers using South Indiana Avenue near 32nd Street will need to follow a marked detour at 36th Street after an unexpected road closure was put in place for safety. According to the City, boring operations for a sanitary sewer project created instability beneath the roadway, making it unsafe for traffic.
The closure will remain in effect until further notice. Motorists are asked to use caution, follow posted detour signs, and allow extra travel time when moving through the area.
