Good Morning, Joplin. Halloween’s in the rearview, but November’s bringing plenty to look forward to. Hopefully you’re feeling a little brighter after the clocks turned back. Of course, if you stayed up for Game 7 of the World Series, that “extra hour” probably turned into a late-night nail-biter instead.

In today’s JOMO Jive:

  • Ribbon cuttings and grand openings

  • New Spiva exhibits

  • Leadership changes at JACC

Let’s get to it.

🏛️ Leadership Changes at the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce

The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce has turned a new page following the departure of Travis Stephens, who stepped down as President and CEO in June 2025 after the Chamber faced financial challenges. Stephens has since been appointed Economic Development Director for the City of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where he now leads the city’s travel and economic development initiatives.

Succeeding him is Betsy Mense, the Chamber’s new President and CEO, joined by Steve Urban, the new President of Economic Development and Entrepreneurship. Mense brings extensive nonprofit leadership experience, most recently from the Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri, while Urban will focus on business growth and regional partnerships. Board Chair Katrina Richards praised the appointments as “an exciting step forward” for the organization.

🎉 Meet the New Chamber President

Join the Chamber Board and staff in welcoming Betsy Mense at a Meet & Greet on Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the Roxy Event Center in Downtown Joplin. The public is invited to celebrate and connect with the new leadership team.
