Good Morning, Joplin. There’s a burning question going around the Internet: Who would win in a fight, 100 men or a single gorilla? If a gorilla went to Gold’s gym it could bench a literal ton, squat a Toyota Camry, and crush a coconut like we pop bubble wrap. My money might be on the gorilla.

In today’s JOMO Jive:

  • Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts

  • Dr. Fly’s Mamas & Mimosas

  • 50th Annual Four State Farm Show

Let’s get to it.

P.S. If you find something useful in today’s Jive, please share it with someone who celebrated Cinco de Mayo with an alcoholic beverage right there on their driveway.

50th Annual Four State Farm Show 🚜

What started as a small gathering in 1975 has grown into the premier agricultural event in the Four State region—and it’s back this spring at Pittsburg State University. The 2025 Four State Farm Show runs May 9–11, bringing together farmers, ag businesses, and curious folks from across Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

Now in its 50th year, the show features:

  • 🌾 Indoor exhibits at the Robert W. Plaster Center

  • 🚜 Traditional outdoor displays with the latest in ag tech and equipment

  • 🌱 A legacy of connecting ag producers with the tools, resources, and innovations they need

Hosted once again on the Pitt State campus thanks to a multi-year agreement with the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds & Event Center, this event is a can’t-miss for anyone with roots in the ag world—or an interest in where their food starts.

Civic Updates

Joplin’s 2025 Street Resurfacing Is Underway 🚧

Heads up, drivers—Joplin’s 2025 resurfacing program kicked off the week of April 14, starting in the Easttown area. This year’s project includes two resurfacing zones to make up for last year’s pause during utility work, meaning even more streets are getting a fresh layer of asphalt.

The process is called mill and overlay, where the top two inches of old pavement are milled off and replaced with smooth new asphalt. If your street is scheduled, the City’s contractor, Blevins Asphalt Construction, will post door hangers and “no parking” signs 48 hours before work begins.

📍 Areas scheduled for resurfacing in 2025 include:

  • Easttown and south of 7th Street

  • North St. Louis Ave. & East Zora Rd.

  • North St. Louis Ave. & Prairie Flower Rd.

  • Southwest Joplin

  • Connecticut Ave. from 15th to 32nd

  • Northwest Joplin

  • Forest Park Cemetery

🚘 Want to check your street? Find resurfacing maps here: joplinmo.org/168/City-Maps

The work is funded through the City’s Transportation, Capital Improvement, and Parks & Stormwater Sales Taxes. Questions? Contact Traffic Engineer Dakota Rusk at 417-624-0820 ext. 1598 or [email protected].
