Good Morning, Joplin. I burned 3,600 calories in under an hour yesterday. Sounds like the opener of a bad exercise infomercial, but I actually just forgot about the cookies in the oven.
In today’s JOMO Jive:
Taylorville
Season 87 at JLT
Wings & Wheels
Let’s get to it.

Swifties can spend Friday night singing along when Taylorville: Unofficial Live Tribute Band takes over Joe Becker Stadium on Oct. 2 from 7–10 PM. The Taylor Swift tribute band performs hits and deep cuts from throughout Swift’s career, accompanied by a video wall production designed to recreate the feel of a live pop concert.
Tickets are $20–$25, with prices increasing by $5 on the day of the show. Doors open 90 minutes before the performance, free parking is available nearby, and the event is scheduled to take place rain or shine unless severe weather forces it to be rescheduled.
* Taylorville is an independent tribute act and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Taylor Swift or her affiliated entities.

🎭 Joplin Little Theatre Kicks Off 87th Season — and Needs a Little Help

Joplin Little Theatre
Joplin Little Theatre’s 87th season is underway, but keeping the shows going involves plenty of work behind the curtain, too. The nonprofit is currently tackling more than $15,000 in roof and HVAC repairs to its historic building while continuing to fund productions, workshops and other theatre programming. Community members can support JLT by buying tickets, making a donation, volunteering backstage or as an usher, auditioning for a production, or advertising their business in show programs.
There’s also plenty left on the Season 87 calendar. Next up is Carrie: The Musical from Oct. 22–25, followed by I’ll Be Home for Christmas Dec. 10–13, Charlotte’s Web March 18–21, and Harvey May 27–30. Donations can be made through Joplin Little Theatre’s website, and tickets are available for upcoming performances.

🏘️ North Heights Seeks National Historic Designation

Porchfest 2025
Joplin’s North Heights neighborhood is working toward designation as an official historic district, a process that could create new opportunities for grants and tax credits to restore homes and businesses. The City and Urbana Preservation Planning are surveying properties and researching the neighborhood’s history, with more than 40 homes already identified as potentially historic. The first phase is expected to wrap up in April 2027, with the full designation process potentially continuing through 2030.
The neighborhood, located between Main and Jackson streets and C and F streets, began as a mining camp before becoming home to many of Joplin’s skilled, middle-class workers and industry leaders. Today, North Heights is also known for its strong arts and community culture, including Porchfest, which is expected to bring more than 60 bands to neighborhood porches on October 10.

CIVIC UPDATES
🚒 Joplin Fire Department Lands $800K Federal Grant
The Joplin Fire Department has been awarded an $800,000 FEMA grant that will help the department hire six additional firefighters sooner than originally anticipated. Combined with a $500,000 contribution from the City, the funding will provide $1.3 million to hire the new firefighters and cover their salaries for their first three years.
Fire officials say the additional staffing should help reduce mandatory overtime, improve recruitment and retention, and keep pace with growing call volume as Joplin continues to grow. It’s the first time the department has received a FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant.
